Strange about this pair is how they constructed the yoke as this is normally felded and stitched the opposite. These curvy arcuates are also known as ‘Crazy Eagle’ amongst denim collectors.Īnother fun fact about this pair, in 1943 Levi’s registered their arcuate as a trademark to prevent copying by other denim brands, so this pair was produced before this period. The arcuates on this pair reflects each operator skills. EDWIN is a progressive denim brand that blends their Japanese background, craftsmanship and expertise with a European contemporary flavour, vision and attitude. The arcuates on the back pockets were stitched free hand, so not automatically with a template as nowadays, and single needed. This pair is from the 1930s, this period added the now famous Red Tab on the right back pocket (which is positioned very high on this pair), and it was also the last version of the 501 with a cinch on the back, they were removed during WW2 to save material for war time, same as the crotch rivet and the rivets on the coin/watch pocket. Still one of my favorites pairs of vintage 501 jeans from my denim archive.
